C1. Ratio & proportion : ratio. The quotient of two numbers or quantities showing their relative sizes is called their ratio. The ratio of a to b is written a:b or a/b. This ratio is often expressed using the smallest possible integers. For example the numbers 12 and 18 are in the ratio 12:18 which is the same ratio as 6:9 or 4:6 or 2:3.
