C. REAL LIFE PROBLEMS - MONEY
Key objective: to help children use the four rules of number mentally
to solve simple problems involving money.
The activities in this section require the child to complete problems
involving:

the value of all coins.
-
exchanging coins for their equivalent value using several smaller
coins.

different ways of paying the same amounts using different coins.
-
finding the total cost of several items in a shop.
-
finding the difference in cost between items of less than £1.
-
working out the change from 20p and 50p coins.
-
finding missing amounts.
-
arranging coins to total a stated amount.
He or she will have to decide if the calculation can be done mentally
or if additional apparatus such as coins or pencil and paper are
required.
