Apply Your Knowledge!

In this section, you will be given some activities to try away from the computer. These activities will give you a chance to practise and try to apply your knowledge of the heart and circulation. You may need an adult to help you with these so check with one before you start.

Task 1: Have a look at your own heart rate. Sit and relax and calculate your resting rate. Then try different types of exercise, calculating your heart rate after each exercise. Which type of exercise gets your heart beating the fastest? Try plotting the results on a graph.

Task 2: See how many different places on your body you can feel your pulse. The best places are on the inside of your wrist and the side of your neck.

Task 3: Cross your legs so the inside of one knee rests on your other knee. Watch your upper leg carefully. If you can position it correctly, the blood pumping through the blood vessels at the back of your knee causes your leg to move slightly with each beat. Try it and see!

You have now completed the heart and circulation unit and should be feeling confident. See you again soon!
