Below is some useful background information to accompany each of
the children's sections in this unit. Although some of this information
is specific to the section to which it refers much of it applies
equally well across the whole unit.
Any child who displays difficulty with the language aspect of the
activities should be given sufficient help with reading to get him/her
underway with the maths content.
Target group: this unit is intended for use by Year 1 primary teachers.
It provides an easily accessible method of supplying online basic
maths reinforcement and revision activities for 6 year old children
working at Levels 1and 2 of the National Curriculum.
The exercises in the unit concentrate on providing children with
enjoyable but educational activities that fit clearly into the key
objectives as outlined in the National Numeracy Strategy document.
It is hoped that by doing the exercises and activities in the unit
the child will enhance his or her performance in the KS1 National
Tasks and Tests in maths (SATs).
The unit has four sections (A-D for children and one section of
teacher notes e).
Each of the sections for children has six title headings with two
pages for each title. The first page of each title (numbered 1)
has mainly drag and drop activities. The second page (numbered 1a)
has mainly more formal measuring activities.
All pages within a group relate to the section heading and key
objective for that section.
